What is the CAT?

The Cafesjian Art Trust Museum (the CAT) is a dynamic modern and contemporary art museum in the Twin Cities that inspires creativity, curiosity, and connection through art. The museum is free and invites everyone to experience a growing collection, stunning exhibitions, and robust programming in a welcoming space.

Where is it?

The CAT is located at 4600 Churchill Street, Shoreview, MN — North of 694, near the intersection of Lexington and County Rd. G (Highway 96).

What are your days and hours of operation?

The CAT is open for tours by reservation only on Thursdays and Fridays at 10:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Visitors may drop in any time on Friday nights from 5:00pm–8:00pm, and Saturdays between 10:00am–4:30pm. You can make a reservation here or by calling (612) 359-8991.

Do I have to be on the tour, or can I just walk through on my own?

All visitors on Thursdays and Fridays must be a part of a scheduled tour group; However, on Saturdays, visitors are welcome to drop in any time between 10:00am–4:30pm to view the museum on their own. You can make a reservation here or by calling (612) 359-8991. 

What if I want to bring a group?

The CAT welcomes large groups of up to 20 people on Thursdays and Fridays at 10:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Please call (612) 359-8991 to reserve a time for your group to visit.

Can I rent the space for an event I’m hosting?

We do not rent out the museum to outside parties. We host special ticketed events including exhibition opening receptions, and family programming. Visit our events page for more information.

Can I get food at the CAT?

We do not have food at the CAT. But there are a variety of places to eat or grab a coffee at the Churchill St right next door or Shore 96.

Is it accessible?

In addition to ADA-compliant entrances, common areas and restrooms, the CAT has a sensory-friendly quiet room available. Learn more about accessibility at the CAT.

Do I need a ticket?

You do not need to present a physical ticket. If you have a reservation for a Thursday or Friday tour, you will check in at the front desk using the name under which the reservation was booked.

How much does it cost to visit?

The CAT is free to visit.

What will I see when I visit the museum?

The CAT displays one main exhibition at a time, with additional artwork on view in the lobby and library. We have two large-scale works by Dale Chihuly on permanent display, as well as three sculptures on our outdoor patio. Exhibitions rotate approximately every four to five months, providing many opportunities to revisit the museum. How long is the guided tour?

Tours at the CAT are approximately 30 minutes long. Visitors are then given time to explore the Museum on their own afterward. Tours are offered at the CAT Museum on Thursdays and Fridays by reservation only at 10:00am, 1:00pm, and 3:00pm. Visitors may join a drop-in tour on Saturdays at 1:00pm. Can I check my coat and bag?

We have a coat rack that you may use during your visit, located just in front of our reception desk. The CAT cannot be responsible for the loss or theft of items left at the coat rack.

Is there parking?

Yes, we have a parking lot next to the entrance on the south side of the museum.

Can I visit your library?

Yes. We welcome researchers, students, artists, curators, and art enthusiasts to explore the resources we have to offer in the library. The library can be booked for four-hour increments on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Please email info@cafesjianarttrust.org or call (612) 359-8991 to reserve a time. Ahead of your visit, please visit our library catalogue to see all of the books we have to offer.

Can I check books out from the library?

No, all books must remain at the CAT.

What kinds of books does the library have?

The library contains books on various topics, with a focus on the artists in the museum collection. There are also rare books, and books embellished by artists. Visit our library catalogue to see all of the books we have to offer.

If there is a work in your collection related to my research, is it possible to review the work in person?

We make our best efforts to provide opportunities for researchers to review works in our collection that are not currently on display. Because of scale, complexity, or other factors, we may not be able to fulfill your request. Please call (612) 359-8991 for more information.

Can I chest or bottle feed my baby at the CAT? Is there a place where I can pump?

Chest and bottle feeding are welcome throughout the museum. We also have a private space with an outlet and a chair available for pumping or nursing; please ask staff for access.

Is there a gender-neutral single user bathroom available at the CAT?

Yes. Please ask a staff member for access to a gender-neutral single user bathrooms available in the CAT’s offices.

What is your policy for bad weather?

The safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers is paramount. If there is inclement weather, the Museum will close of out of an abundance of caution.
