Echoes of Life: Paintings from the Collection

The CAT invites you to enjoy a selection of paintings curated from the Museum’s collection of small moments from the human experience that reflect both the beauty and the adversity of our world. These painted “echoes of life” may feel intimately familiar or may introduce an entirely new way to see the world. Although some depict unusual places or circumstances, the artworks in this exhibition all contain universal elements of our shared humanity. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to respond, interact, and reflect in a variety of ways. Reservations for tours will be available to book starting January 3rd.

Kyohei Fujita (Japanese, 1921–2004). Sansai tsurukubi (Three-Colored Crane-Neck Vase) with custom wooden box. Probably made in Venice, Italy, sometime between 1977–2000. Blown and cased glass with applied gold foil; acid etched. Cafesjian Art Trust 2024.335.4.

Out of the Box: The Glass Art of Kyohei Fujita

On display in the CAT Museum’s Focus Gallery is a selection of six works by artist Kyohei Fujita (Japanese, 1921–2004), a pioneer of Japanese glass art. See his decorated glass boxes and Venetian-inspired vessels that have long been appreciated for their simple forms, artful surface decoration, and modern take on classic Japanese aesthetics.
